Sir Alex Ferguson insist that Manchester United is still the best place for a young footballer to go.

In Jose Mourinho’s first press conference as Tottenham manager, the Portuguese insisted that he is a manager who gives youth a chance.

However, he alluded to the fact that perhaps previous employers simply did not have good enough youth or a sufficient youth system to allow that to happen.

In an interview with TalkSport, the godfather of giving young footballers a chance Sir Alex Ferguson has hit back.

Fergie was the man to really push the development of youth at the highest level of football.

He was the manager who was told “you never win anything with kids, and took the famous “class of ’92” and won the league and cup double.

Sir Alex has quite simply puts his faith in young footballers when he gives them their big shot.

He said:

“The thing about young people is if you give them an opportunity, not only do they seize it, they never let you down.”

“They have the enthusiasm to do well.”

“If we go back to the young lads of ‘92, you give them an opportunity to play for Man United in front of 75,000 and they don’t want to miss that.

“And they all did very well, and they’re also very good human beings.

“They’re [Rashford, McTominay, and Greenwood] all doing well.

“It’s a good set up at United. For any young kid going there, it’s a great club to go to.”
