Emmanuel Petit believes that Bruno Fernandes has already achieved in just a few weeks what Paul Pogba failed to do in a few years.
Paul Pogba arrived at Manchester United back in 2016 for a then world-record transfer fee. However, in all honesty, he failed to live up to all the hype and the price tag.
The French World Cup winner’s arrival was billed as the return of the prodigal son, a player who the team could be led by and built around.
It’s now almost four years later and the Red Devils are yet to see the player they paid so much for or the leader they were looking for.
Former Arsenal and France midfielder Emmanuel Petit admits Fernandes has already outshone Pogba.
Speaking to the Mirror, he is hoping the Portuguese can bring the best out of his compatriot.
“Fernandes has made a huge impact.
“In the space of two months, he is the best buy in the winter market.”
“He has made such a big impact. It’s like he’s been at the club for six years.”
“He’s changed the mentality inside the dressing room. It’s hard for a player to come in mid-season and do that.”
“Paul Pogba was meant to be doing this at Manchester United.”
“It’s what he should have done in terms of leadership on the pitch.”
“But I’m looking forward to seeing them together on the pitch, I want to see if that can work, and I’m pretty sure it can work.”
Pogba’s future at United is still very much up in the air. However, if he stays the idea of a midfield partnership with Fernandes is mouthwatering.
