Benjamin Pavard has received the great honor of having his goal against Argentina recognized as this past World Cup’s best of the tournament by FIFA.

This was the goal that broke the game and paved the way for France’s eventual victory against Argentina in the Russia World Cup’s round of 16, Benjamin Pavard approached the outskirts of the box and connected a volley that changed the match completely from that moment forward. Today this goal can be officially considered the best of the tournament according to FIFA. The French right-back’s golazo could very well compete for this year’s Puskas Award in September, it really was that great of a goal and it helped defeat none other than Lionel Messi’s Argentina, the current World Cup runner-up at the time the match was played.

There were many goals in the World Cup that were worth mentioning in the conversation to pick the best of the tournament, the Spain-Portugal thriller had a couple of screamers that we will all remember for the rest of time. Messi’s goal against Nigeria after a sublime Ever Banega assist was also incredible but none of those beat Pavard’s impressive volley because it simply defied the laws of physics. Also, that goal was the reason why the world suddenly knew who Pavard was because he wasn’t familiar to anyone before that moment against Argentina.

Now that the voting for the best goal of the tournament concluded, the Frenchman gets a well-deserved recognition for a true masterpiece and an event he will get to tell his grandkids over and over when he is old. However, we are certain that nothing will ever beat winning the World Cup with his country this summer in Russia, the recognition for his goal today is just the cherry on top. From now on, kids in France will say ‘Bend it like Pavard’ rather than bend it like that other famous player.
