Filipe Luis backs Neymar’s Barca return: “He was happy there”

Filipe Luis hopes it’s true that his Brazil team-mate Neymar returns to Barcelona this summer as it would “get his smile back”.

Rumours continue to grow linking Neymar with a surprise return to Barcelona despite only leaving for Paris Saint-Germain two years ago. Apparently, he quickly became disillusioned with life in Paris and regrets leaving Camp Nou in the first place.

On Sunday morning, Catalan-based paper Sport announced on its front cover that Neymar had sent a Whatsapp message to the Barcelona team promising them he will return this summer.

The Blaugrana players are allegedly keen on the 27-year-old’s return and have encouraged the club board to go ahead with the deal rather than pursue Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann.

And Neymar has allegedly told PSG owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi that he wants out of France and never wants to play for his club again.

While unsure himself over what his Selecao team-mate is plotting, Filipe Luis hopes it ends with a happy Neymar back at Barcelona.

“I have no idea if Neymar’s going to Barcelona because I haven’t spoken to him, but if it happens it would be a huge shock to the transfer market. I would like to see him back at Barca,” the full-back told COPE.

“He was happy there, he enjoys himself much more there and he needs to get his smile back and that joy that he had. I know he would be happier back at Barcelona but I am not with him and I don’t know what he’s thinking. I just know what I read in the press.”

Neymar’s not the only Brazilian this summer with a future to decide on as Filipe Luis will be out of contract with Atletico Madrid at the end of the month.

The 33-year-old has remained coy on his plans, but promised an answer come to the end of Brazil’s Copa America campaign.

“I don’t know what I will do, honestly,” admitted Filipe Luis.

“A lot of things can happen between now and the end of the Copa America. I promised the coach (Tite) that I wasn’t going to speak with anyone until after the tournament. I think it’s only fair to have my head focused here.

“When the Copa’s over, I will sit down with Atletico to see what possibilities there are and after that, we will see. July’s going to be a complicated month.”

Barcelona have reportedly been keeping tabs on Filipe Luis’ situation at the Wanda Metropolitano.
