Fiorentina owner Rocco Commisso was left gushing over Franck Ribery’s performance against Juventus, which he rates above that of even Cristiano Ronaldo’s.
Fiorentina, who haven’t won a game yet this season, held Juventus to a goalless draw on Saturday. They even had the better opportunities, with new boy Ribery turning back the clock with a stellar display.
The 36-year-old, who arrived from Bayern Munich in the summer, proved his class against the mighty Juventus. In fact, the home supporters even gave him a standing ovation when he came off in the second-half for Kevin-Prince Boateng.
And Commisso later praised Ribery for capping off his first Fiorentina start with a display that he feels outclassed Ronaldo.
“I am very happy, as the lads gave their heart and it was a fun afternoon,” he told Sky Sport Italia.
“Did you see Ribery at the age of 36? He played better than Cristiano Ronaldo! And our two Italians, Gaetano Castrovilli and Federico Chiesa, were phenomenal.
“I see this match as like the history of my company, Mediacom. Juventus had €300 million worth of players between transfer fees and salaries. While ours was about €50m, but we still got a point.”
Although Commisso doesn’t have much to celebrate at the moment as that was Fiorentina’s first point of the season after losing their first two games.
The last time La Viola won a league match, in fact, came away to SPAL in February.
“If you give me time, I want to help Fiorentina win something,” said Commisso.
“Look at the success we’ve had over the last two months, we had more season tickets than in the last 30 years.
“We’ve rebuilt the team and now have a great champion like Ribery too. If you give us time, we’ll one day win games like this.”
