Following Joaquin Sanchez’s record-breaking treble in La Liga, it’s time to look at five oldest hat-trick scorers in Europe.

Real Betis icon Joaquin Sanchez’s remarkable achievement in becoming La Liga’s oldest hat-trick scorer was another reminder of how veterans are able to perform better nowadays.

Most players used to settle into retirement by their mid-thirties, with very few continuing beyond that. They simply saw no point in continuing as their performance levels dropped, along with struggles to stay fit.

But the few stars who did continue have paved the way for others to follow in their lead.

We’ve now got a 38-year-old Zlatan Ibrahimovic looking for one last hurrah after destroying MLS defences. While Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are looking sharp despite approaching their twilight years.

Juventus captain Giorgio Chiellini and his Paris Saint-Germain counterpart Thiago Silva aren’t looking bad either.

So, in light of this, we will take a look at some of football’s golden oldies to have scored a hat-trick in Europe.
