Manchester United’s youngsters fell to a 2-1 defeat against Astana during Thursday night’s Europa League clash.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer bravely gave his senior players a rest for the trip to Kazakhstan as Manchester United looked to seal top spot Group L by beating Astana in the Europa League.
The Norwegian’s gamble looked to have paid dividends when Jesse Lingard’s deflected strike fired United into a 10th-minute lead. They continued to dominate right until the half-time whistle.
But Astana returned from the break as an almost completely different side. The much-improved hosts began to pile the pressure on United before Dmitri Shomko’s 55th-minute equaliser.
Then Di’Shon Bernard’s unfortunate own goal seven minutes wrapped up a surprise win for Roman Hryhorchuk’s men.
