Atletico Madrid paid a huge price for a dreadful performance by losing 2-1 to Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League.

Atletico failed to join Juventus on booking a last-16 Champions League spot on Wednesday following a 2-1 loss at the hands of Leverkusen. It ended an 11-match unbeaten run, and put Simeone in the firing line.

In fact, Los Rojiblancos barely managed to pose much of a threat to Leverkusen overall.

It wasn’t really until the Germans had gone two goals up through a Thomas Partey own goal and Kevin Volland’s strike, that Atletico began to pose any challenge.

Despite the hosts going a man down through Nadiem Amiri’s dismissal, however, the Spanish giants had settle for nothing more than a consolation goal from Alvaro Morata.

Now, we’ll take a look at what went down over at the BayArena.
