After a humiliating defeat like the one to Manchester City, it takes a lot to bounce back.

Chelsea did that with this win here. This was a game they could have easily lost on another night. Malmo were keen to try and take advantage of any lack of focus from their visitors. Their 20 fouls attest to that.

Sarri’s side had to work hard for their victory, and they did it well. The hosts pout Chelsea under regular pressure particularly from set pieces, but the Blues weathered the storm.

The fact they limited the Swedish side to two shots on target tells its own story. So does the 74% possession they enjoyed.

It was the kind of mettle that was missing in that defeat to City and will be needed if they are to recover from the slump they are enduring. Sarri will have been mildly encouraged.
