Real Madrid’s Florentino Perez, visited the wake of Josep Lluis Nuñez, the former Barcelona president who passed away last Monday.

Florentino Perez is widely considered as one of the best football club presidents in recent history, but he just revealed that he followed the footsteps of the late Josep Lluis Nuñez who passed away this Monday at the age of 87 years old.

The man who completely modernized FC Barcelona as a club, will forever be considered as one of the best presidents in the Catalan club’s history and is one of Florentino Perez’s biggest examples to follow as a chairman.

Nuñez was the one who had the brilliant idea of bringing the late great Johan Cruyff back to Barcelona as the manager in 1988, he also supported the idea of giving an opportunity to the club’s football academy and completely revolutionized the club’s philosophy from the core out.

The sadness that Nuñez’s passing has brought to all the Spanish football community is unmeasurable, people from every club have expressed their sympathy to his family and talked about the impact he had in modern football with his innovative ideas.

For the Real Madrid president who is considered a visionary for the way he leads Los Blancos, Nuñez represents everything he has ever aspired to become and attended the wake ceremony at the Espai Memorial at 18:30 alongside Emilio Butragueño.

Perez spoke about the former president in front of the people who also attended the ceremony, to reveal how much admiration he has for the recently deceased man.

“I would like to manifest my deepest condolences to Josep Lluis Nuñez’s family, to Barcelona and all the fans; I would also like to express my acknowledgment and respect for a great president, who is one of the greatest football club presidents in the world,” said Florentino via Diario AS.

“Everybody has already praised his career in the last few days. Nobody doubts that there was a before and after his presidency at Barcelona.”

“He was a key figure in the club’s modernization, professionalization, and internationalization that elevated the sport to a whole new category.”

“All the other presidents who came after him, have to be grateful that he showed us the path with his energy.”

“It is thanks to things of this nature and presidents like him, that Real Madrid and Barcelona are the two best clubs in the world. This is my opinion,” he concluded.

Butragueño also spoke to Barça TV about the late former president’s term at the club, which lasted from 1978 until the year 2000.

“It was a very long period, the longest that Barcelona has experienced with a president. His arrival brought a new chapter within the world of club management; he helped transform Barcelona into a professional football club,” said Butragueño on Barça TV.

“He also brought one of the best players in the world to the club (Brazilian Ronaldo), he always saw the bigger picture and I believe he was an extraordinary president.”

“He was obviously our rival, because he made things very difficult for us every year but we always had the utmost respect for his work for a long time.”

“I never spoke directly to him because he didn’t really attend any sports ceremony or gala, the one who went was Nicilau Casaus.”

“We barely crossed paths, that is the truth. But nobody can deny that his mark will remain in the heart of every Barcelona supporter for a long time,” he concluded.
