Paulo Fonseca and his Roma side will not make the same mistake as others by underestimating the Austrian side Wolfsberger AC.
While Fonseca confirmed he will be making changes to his team for the Europa Cup match. He also confirmed that nothing was being taken for granted.
The almost unheard of side from Austria, thumped Bundeskia side Borussia Monchengladbach 4-0 in Germany in the opening game of Group J.
The Italians will be hoping to not fall into the same trap of being overconfident and taking their lesser opponents for granted.
Speaking to the press in the prematch conference, Fonseca paid tribute to tomorrow night’s opponent.
“Obviously, this is a quality team and the result does reflect the strength of their performance, as they are aggressive in defence and dangerous on the counter-attack.”
“Wolfsberger are like the Atalanta of Austria.”
“They are very physical, intensive, aggressive in the duels, who press when they lose the ball.”
“They have been underestimated.”
While the Giallorossi manager didn’t want to give too much away, he did clarify some changes to the team.
“Aleksandar Kolarov and Edin Dzeko need rest too, while with Lorenzo Pellegrini and Henrikh Mkhitaryan injured, some of the choices are forced upon us.”
“There are other players who I have complete faith in.”
“I will give you one concession on the line-up, as I can confirm Kalinic will start and allow Dzeko to rest.”
“He is in good shape, but Davide Zappacosta is not yet capable of handling a full match.”
“Chris Smalling has done well in his first two games, but he can improve in his positioning on the defensive line.”
Both sides are tied for first place in Europa League Group J, after recording 4-0 victories in their opening games.
The winner will claim top spot outright and have the opportunity to set the pace for knock out stage qualification.
