Change is the only constant. It is evident when you look into the history of the most popular sport in the world. Throughout its history, the football rules and traditions went through various transformations to become the modern game we know today.
On October 26, 1863, members from a dozen Local and suburban clubs gathered at the Freemasons’ Tavern, at Lincoln’s Fields, London, to work out the different rules involved in the game of football. The clubs represented at that meeting formed the Football Association.
In December 1863, the founding members of The Football Association met to finalize the rules of football at a tavern in Lincoln’s Inn Fields in London. The handwritten text is still in existence and is in the hands of The Football Association.
