Football journalist Abraham Durham claims that VAR is destroying football

Another day, another controversy involving the VAR. Earlier today, Sheffield United faced Tottenham in the Premier League. Despite their bad form and inability to claim three points, Spurs were not the talking point of the match.

Just after Son put Spurs in the lead, Sheffield United scored an equalizer. But McGoldrick’s celebration was tainted he learned he was apparently offside. After the length check, which took around three minutes, VAR decided to rule out McGoldrick’s goal. The computer image showed him level with Eric Dier, but the assistant referee thought otherwise.

Abraham Durham, who hosts football talk shows, has called out VAR for its inefficiency. Durham expressed his frustration with the video assistant referee and claimed that it is destroying football. Abraham tweeted against it saying:

“Incredible garbage this. Scrap VAR. Never should be disallowed, wasn’t even the correct phase of play.”

Abraham further went on to show his dissatisfaction with the VAR:

“I just cannot have that as disallowed.

“It’s destroying football for those who are paying money to come to a game and wait nearly four minutes for a big toe to be offside.

“It’s just not football.”
