He was a free agent after being released by Turkish side Fenerbache.

He told the official club web site atalanta.it:

“I’m happy to be here obviously.”

“I’m proud to be part of this football club”

“I’m looking forward to starting with the team on the pitch.”

Lucas Moura: Man City & Liverpool are not invincible

Lucas Moura insists "there is no invincible team" in the Premier League as Tottenham prepare to challenge Manchester City and Liverpool for the title.

“The facilities and everything else are of top quality.”

“I know that Atalanta finished third in the league last year and will be part of the Champions League this season. That will be great for the team.”

Skrtel has a professional career that spans 15 years, He has played 533 top-level games, and scored 28 goals.

The Slovakian defender, represented his country 103 times and managed 6 goals for them too.

He will bring a wealth of experience to what is unchartered territory for the Italian side.

It was rumored his former Liverpool teammate and now Glasgow Rangers manager Steven Gerrard wanted the big defender.

But it appears the lure of a return to Champions League football was too good for Skrtel to turn down.
