Julen Lopetegui has praised Zinedine Zidane for his accomplishments with Real Madrid.

Back in 2018, after Zinedine Zidane decided to step from his managerial role, Real Madrid appointed Julen Lopetegui, who also discontinued his job as the Spain boss.

Julen Lopetegui’s arrival was marked with a foul taste as Los Blancos lost against rivals Atletico. Fourteen matches later, following a string of poor performances and a disappointing loss to Barcelona, he was relieved of his duties.

But the Sevilla boss does not have any resentment for the 1998 Ballon d’Or winner. Instead, Lopetegui was full of praise for Zidane for guiding Real Madrid to numerous cup final wins.

“The work he is doing is extraordinary,” Lopetegui said as per Marca.

“The results and titles he has achieved are worthy of praise.”

Julen Lopetegui is set to return to the Santiago Bernabeu when Sevilla face Real Madrid in La Liga. Sevilla are out of favor as they failed to win against Real Madrid in the last 12 matches between them. But Lopetegui is confident that the past wouldn’t matter when the two teams meet tomorrow.

“We’re not looking at the stats,” he said.

“The match will give us what we give to the match. We go into it with confidence, even though we know the difficulties Real Madrid will throw at us.”
