Mike Maignan has recalled his exchange of words with Zlatan Ibrahimovic during their time at PSG.
If there’s one player who is loved as much as he is hated by opposite set of fans, it is Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Swedish striker has a long list of clubs he has played for, and an even longer list of unimaginable goals.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is known for speaking his mind and, therefore, is often seen making controversial statements. Lille goalkeeper Mike Maignan has recalled one such incident.
Maignan revealed that Ibrahimovic called him a ‘sh*t goalkeeper’ during his training with PSG. Later, after he saved one of Zlatan’s shot, he couldn’t control himself and replied back with calling him a ‘sh*t attacker.’
But the Lille goalkeeper claimed that the little fued between them was later resolved as Ibrahimovic praised his personality for being upfront and honest in the dressing room.
“Even if we’re not in touch today, I like him,” he told France Football.
“He’s honest. He says what he has to say to you to your face. But when you speak to him, you have to be careful, that you’re not too perfect.
“He was practicing shooting and the ball was going past me at 400km an hour! Gianluigi Buffon, Julio Cesar, these guys wouldn’t have stopped those shots,” Maignan declared.
“He told me: ‘You’re a sh*t goalkeeper.’ For me, that wasn’t right. The next time, he came back but I stopped his shot. I had to respond: ‘You’re a sh*t attacker.’ He just looked at me and didn’t say anything.
“Back in the changing room, he stopped me. He told me that it’s good, that he liked what I did and that he liked my personality,” Mike Maignan recalled.
“I loved him before but it made me like him even more.”
