Jordi Mestre says he is still unsure whether Lionel Messi will sign a contract renewal with Barcelona.

A few days back, Lionel Messi was caught up in a conflict with Eric Abidal involving an internal issue at FC Barcelona.

Lionel Messi rebelled against the Barcelona sporting director’s idea of shaming the players while urging the club administrators to take the blame upon themselves.

Since then, talks have emerged that the Argentine is actively trying to move out of Camp Nou.

Earlier, Eric Abidal commented that although Barca were trying to pin him down, it remains to be a question whether he wants to do the same.

And now, former Barcelona vice-president Jordi Mestre has echoed Abidal’s claims.

Jordi Mestre revealed that Barcelona are trying to negotiate a new contract offer with the six time Ballon d’Or winner and are in talks with his father. He also added that whether he will sign the deal or not is a totally different question.

“I have no idea whether he’ll renew. It’s asking very little,” Mestre said as Marca reports.

“His father is negotiating the renewal. I always respect contact with the players. I only intervened when it was the moment to talk.”
