France beat Albania to top Euro 2020 qualifying Group H, after an assist and a goal from Antoine Griezmann in a 0-2 victory.
France was heavily criticized for a less than convincing victory over Moldova the other day.
Today’s performance was a little better in terms of pressure applied.
However, it still lacked the World Cup-winning quality that we have become accustomed to from Didier Deschamps team.
Les Bleus were highly dependant on Antoine Griezmann.
Griezmann has been struggling for form at new club Barcelona, and some have even questioned his selection by Deschamps.
But the forward proved today, why he is still a key figure for his country, even when he not at his best.
Greizmann had a hand in the first goal and scored the second himself.
He swung in a free-kick from the left side in the eighth minute of the game.
Corentin Tolisso met the ball at the near post, getting his head on it, 0-1 to France.
In the 31st minute, Griezmann got one for himself. Leo Dubois cut the ball back and the France number 7 made no mistake, sweeping the ball into the net, 0-2 France had the lead.
There was no looking back for France from that point on.
The had full control of the game, but unfortunately, they could turn all the possession and opportunities into goals.
Giroud missed three clear cut chances, having two saved by the keeper, and being denied by the upright once.
Deschamps side has done well considering their injury problems and will be as formidable as ever when back to full strength.
