Chelsea boss Frank Lampard respects Christian Pulisic for cutting his summer break short to get started with his new club.

Pulisic will line-up for Chelsea next season after completing a €64m deal in January. Although he spent the second part of the previous campaign on loan at his old club Borussia Dortmund.

But now the 20-year old can finally begin his Blues career and arrives at Stamford Bridge in a rich vein of form.

Pulisic starred for the United States in the Gold Cup, where he struck three goals and assists to help Gregg Berhalter’s side reach the final. However, they lost 1-0 to Mexico in the final itself last weekend.

Nonetheless, Pulisic’s strong displays earned him many rave reviews and the competition’s best young player award.

Now, this talented young American has opted to give up any chance of a proper holiday to link-up with his new Chelsea team-mates.

“Christian joins us on Tuesday,” said Lampard, according to Goal.

“He’s had a short break, but he wanted to get back with us quickly, which I certainly appreciate.”

Lampard added: “I appreciate that [Pulisic coming straight off the Gold Cup]. It’s how I would have been.

“It’s a big move for him to a huge club. Pulisic’s a top young player. He’s only going to go one way in terms of his career – he’s going to go up and be a big signing for Chelsea. I hope so. I look forward to working with him.

“It’s important we start the season as well as we can. I know we have injuries – people back at Cobham now that are influential players for us at similar positions, so we’ll need him.”

With Pulisic set to arrive on Tuesday, it means he could debut for Chelsea against Barcelona on July 23 in a friendly.
