John Terry has backed his former teammate to be a resounding success at Chelsea as the former midfielder edges closer to the Chelsea job.
John Terry says that there is no one better than Frank Lampard to help Chelsea get back to where they used to.
Lampard is reportedly edging closer to becoming Chelsea’s new manager after Derby County gave the Londoners permission to talk to their manager. The former England international spent just one season with the Rams. In one season, he brought them agonizingly close to winning promotion back to the Premier League.
And John Terry, who spent several years sharing the dressing room with Lampard while the duo played for Chelsea and England, says that the former midfielder is going to convince young stars into staying at the club.
‘After the season he has had with Derby and with Chelsea’s transfer ban in place, there is no-one better equipped than Frank to succeed at Chelsea. It is perfect timing for him and the club,’ Terry said as reported by Daily Mail.
‘Frank was under pressure to succeed at Chelsea the day he arrived from West Ham and he never hid from that. He revelled in it and went on to become Chelsea’s greatest-ever player.
‘What made him that player was his desire to drain every ounce out of his body and that of everyone around him in training. Then, when he was done, he’d go out and practice free-kicks and shooting on his own for another half-hour.
‘People would be amazed at his goal return but they just didn’t realise how much dedication was put into that and his whole game. He is just as exacting on himself now as a manager.’
John Terry also said that Lampard already understands the demands of the club’s owner, Roman Abramovich.
‘Roman is a successful businessman because he is so demanding but Frank will demand nothing less from himself.’
