Ajax midfielder Frenkie De Jong intends to remain at the club for next season, despite being linked with a move to Barcelona this summer
The Netherlands under-21 international has impressed since making his debut at senior level in 2016 and was a member of the Ajax side that reached the final of the Europa League in 2017.
De Jong has reportedly since attracted the interest of Barcelona, who have recently lost midfielder Paulinho and club legend Andres Iniesta, after another impressive season that saw the 21-year-old become a more prominent member of the Ajax first-team.
But it appears that De Jong is not finished at Amsterdam, although anything can happen in football as far as he’s concerned.
“My plan at the moment is to stay here,” De Jong told FOX Sports, via Sport.
“If I say that I’ll stay and then I leave, they’ll remind me that I said I’d stay. But this is football, everything can change in a day or a week.”
De Jong made seven assists for Ajax last season in 23 appearances in the Eredivisie
