Frenkie de Jong rules out January move from Ajax

The highly-rated Frenkie de Jong has announced he will not be leaving Ajax during this month’s transfer window

The 21-year-old midfielder’s impressive performances over the last three seasons have earned plenty of admirers with some going as far as to compare him to Dutch legend Johan Cruyff.

Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City are all interested in making big money moves for De Jong.

Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman even revealed that City coach Pep Guardiola is “totally wild about De Jong”.

But the Dutchman revealed that he will remain at Ajax until the end of this season at least.

“I am certainly not leaving this winter,” De Jong told Ajax’s Twitter.

“I am 100 per cent staying until the summer.

“I don’t know what other people are doing, but personally I would like it if the whole group stay together.

“We have had a fairly decent first half to the season.

Walker expects Sterling to become a better player

Manchester City footballer Kyle Walker expects his teammate Raheem Sterling will only get better for the 2019-2020 English Premier League season.

“The atmosphere in the group is very good and we have a lot of quality – so I would be disappointed if people left.”

De Jong’s Ajax and Holland team-mate Matthijs de Ligt announced himself that he will be remaining at the club this month as well.

Ajax are just two points adrift of Eredivisie leaders PSV Eindhoven after winning 15 of their opening 17 games.

Erik ten Hag’s side also progressed to the Champions League knockout stages, where they will meet reigning champions Real Madrid with the first leg to begin on February 13 in Amsterdam.
