According to Leicester City defender Christian Fuchs, Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku is a “Hercules”, while his team-mate Jamie Vardy has a “big mouth”
The Austria international defender moved to the Premier League side back in 2015 from German club Schalke and was a contributor to Leicester City’s stunning title-winning season in his first year at the club. Fuchs has had his fair share of tough strikers playing against him, but now he admitted the physical presence of Manchester United’s attacker Romelu Lukaku impressed him.
“Stand beside Romelu Lukaku and you know it. He is a Hercules and I suppose a power lifter by profession. Some Premier League players are machines,” the 31-year-old told spox.com.
Leicester have their own top-class striker however, as Jamie Vardy has been a key in their successful season last year. Thanks to Fuchs, visual footage of the moment when the Foxes’ players knew they became the Premier League champions, while celebrating inside Vardy’s home, spread all over the internet.
“He is a cool and crazy guy with a big mouth, but he turns his words into action – at least mostly!” Fuchs said of Vardy.
Fuchs also talked about Claudio Ranieri, who was the brain behind Leicester’s success last season, and called the Italian a “grandfather figure”.
“Claudio had his own ideas, but his most important measure was to not change a lot. We went to a training camp in Austria in the summer of 2015 and Claudio just stood there, didn’t say anything and watched. Afterwards, he came to us and said: ‘Lads, everything works out really good. I don’t have to change anything fundamentally’,” Fuchs explained.
“The structures and times of the training week and the routines on match days stayed exactly the same… His man management was brilliant, and he has been a grandfather-figure for all of us,” the defender praised Ranieri.
