Premier League referee and Tranmere Rovers super fan Mike Dean admits he has on occasion given the official some traditional matchday verbal abuse.
It’s not uncommon for a referee to take some verbal abuse from the fans. This can be especially heightened if the decisions are not going your side’s way.
Perhaps the most common pleasantry sang around British football stadia is “the referee’s a w****er.”
However, in an interview with former England striker Peter Crouch on BBC Radio 5 Live, he admits he is partial to handing out a bit of abuse himself when he is in the stands looking down on his co-workers.
When asked if he sings the fan-favorite, Dean confessed:
“I have a few times, yeah.”
“When I’m watching it, I’m watching it as a supporter.”
“I’m a massive fan yeah… massive. I just lost it to be fair, completely lost it.
“When I go and watch them away from home I won’t sit in the main stand away from them, I’ll go in with the speccys (spectators) and watch it there.”
