Gareth Bale praised Real Madrid team-mate Luka Modric as an incredible player after the Croatian claimed FIFA’s The Best award
The 33-year-old playmaker beat the likes of Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and ex-Real teammate Cristiano Ronaldo to be named as the Player of the Year by FIFA in a ceremony at London’s Royal Festival Hall.
Over the past five months alone, Modric played an influential role in helping Real win a third Champions League title in a row and guided Croatia to their first World Cup final.
Bale, who scored a stunning brace in Real’s 3-1 win over Liverpool in May’s Champions League final at Kiev, took to social media to praise Modric.
“Congratulations my friend! An unbelievable player and an unbelievable season,” he wrote on Twitter.
It was quite a night for Real in London with Sergio Ramos, Marcelo and Raphael Varane joining Modric in the FIFA FIFPro World XI.
New signing Thibaut Courtois was named Goalkeeper of the Year.
Although Bale missed out on winning the Puskas Award, for his stunning overhead kick in the Champions League final, to Salah for his strike against Everton.
