Gareth Bale has revealed what he said to Loris Karius after the final whistle in last season’s Champions League final between Real Madrid and Liverpool
The 2018 final will likely be always remembered for two things – Bale’s spectacular overhead-kick for his first goal of the game and the blunder by Karius that led to the Welsh winger’s second to hand Real a 3-1 win.
Karius was left devastated on the ground after his error with Bale later approaching him at full-time to console the German goalkeeper.
“I always try to put a bit of wobble on the ball. It’s the same with free-kicks,” Bale told the Daily Mail.
“You try to make it more difficult because if it doesn’t go in the corner I always give them a problem if it’s right down their throat.
“I just said, ‘Keep your head up’. Mistakes happen. It’s just unfortunate it’s in a final.
“Yes, I suppose it’s not quite as bad as it looked but I suppose he should save it.”
Karius now plays for Turkish giants Besiktas after Liverpool signed Alisson Becker from AS Roma to become their new first-choice goalkeeper.
