Gary Neville has explained why he preferred playing with David Beckham over Cristiano Ronaldo.

Gary Neville has revealed why he preferred playing alongside David Beckham over Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United.

Neville was a part of the Class of ’92 with Beckham, winning a number of trophies over two decades of playing together.

Ronaldo arrived at Old Trafford when Beckham left for Real Madrid in 2003, but never managed to strike up a similar kind of partnership with Neville.

As per the Daily Mirror, Neville said: “Well I never saw Ronaldo, Beckham was better to play with because he actually played with you.

“Ronaldo, that was one of the things about him, he was never in front of you. the odd time he was you could make quite a lot of dummy runs around the back of him. He was a great individual who could play all across the front line.

“I think obviously the partnership with Beckham was something that was special. But Ronaldo at two or three years at Old Trafford was absolutely incredible.”

Ronaldo returned to Old Trafford last season following spells at Real Madrid and Juventus, but has failed to live up to expectations.

The 37-year-old has struggled to recapture his stellar form, and has been linked with an exit from Old Trafford despite still having a year left on his contract.

The Red Devils were knocked out of the Champions League by Atletico Madrid and look set to end yet another season without any silverware. They are currently sixth on the Premier League table, four points off Arsenal, who are fourth with a game in hand.

Ralf Rangnick’s side are next up against Leicester City after the international break as they look to maintain pressure on the Gunners in the final few weeks of the 2021/22 season.
