Despite facing criticism on his choice of words, Neville is not all happy with Kepa and simply won’t justify his Europa League final mishaps.
Gary Neville surely knows how to stir the pot, and he has done it yet again. This time around, Neville commented on Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, not sugarcoating his opinion at all. Despite having won a majestic Europa League final, Chelsea did not do Neville justice, and their goalkeeper is to blame.
A 4-1 victory did not do the trick for Neville, who explained that he ‘can’t accept’ the behavior of goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. Of course, Kepa had very little faults in receiving the only goal Arsenal scored during the infamous final. To Gary, the goalkeeper manifested instability and behaved nervy throughout the entire game.
Neville also scolded Kepa regarding the moment when Lacazette tried to score a deserving penalty against the goalkeeper. Even despite his errors, Kepa kept a strong face and held up enough to ensure Chelsea’s tremendous 4-1 win. Still, as a defender, Neville feels that Kepa could have done more at the game.
According to Metro, Neville posted, ‘Nothing personal but I just can’t accept a keeper like Kepa. He would make every defense a nervous wreck.’
Kepa held a first squad post for Chelsea during the entire season past. After arriving from Athletic Bilbao, in a £71 million transfer, Kepa ended the season playing 54 games in all competitions. In this timeframe, he harvested 50 goals, which certainly puts him among the most effective goalkeepers in the league. In the Europe League alone, Kepa stod hid ground on seven occasions, successfully blocking off rivalry threats to his goal.
Now, if he could only impress Gary Neville with this outstanding statistics. But, knowing he’s a hardcore Red Devil this will not be an easy job for the Blues’ keeper.
