AC Milan manager Rino Gattuso has urged Krzysztof Piatek to overtake Cristiano Ronaldo in the pursuit for the best foreign debutant in the Serie A.
Krzysztof Piatek has capitalised on Ronaldo’s absence to become the top scorer for both Milan and Genoa.
The Polish striker has been in prolific form for Milan since joining from Genoa and recently found the back of the net for Milan against Juventus in their 2-1 loss.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Gattuso had challenged Piatek to break Ronaldo’s record after the 2-1 loss in Turin.
He said: “I hope you will take the record off Ronaldo (as the best foreigner in the first year of Serie A in terms of goals), you deserve it.”
On TV, Gattuso had said: “To get this record, my whole Milan and not just Krzysztof has to go around.”
The Pole has scored 21 goals in total this season- 8 for the Rossoneri and 13 for Genoa. Ronaldo, who has been missing due to injury for the last three games, has found the back of the net 19 times.
Ronaldo, however, marked his return from injury with a goal in Juve’s 1-1 stalemate against Ajax in the Champions League.
The Portuguese will once again be fired up with the latest challenge as the Bianconneri look to seal their eighth consecutive Scudetto this weekend.
