Gennaro Gattuso paid tribute to the man who he replaced as Napoli boss, the “wonderful” Carlo Ancelotti.
Usually, when a manager gets fired, there is generally not too much love lost, between the divorcing parties.
Following the four-nil victory that secured the team qualification for the last 16 of the Champions League, he was sacked.
But, typical of the man, he has remained silent and even had words of encouragement for his successor.
Ancelotti knows his successor Gennaro Gattuso well. The outgoing Napoli boss was Gattuso’s manager at AC Milan.
In his first press conference reported by the club’s official website, sscnapoli.it, the support shown by his old boss is reciprocated by Gattuso.
“I wanted to call Carlo last night, but I knew he was with his family. We spoke this morning.”
“It was not an easy couple of days for me, as I knew that I had to clarify my decision with Carlo and also speak to the staff.”
“Yet again, Carlo proved himself a wonderful person today.”
“He was like a father for me, I had over 300 games with him as a coach.”
“I have always called him for advice during moments of difficulty.”
“He was always very kind.”
“He confirmed that today, he told me where the team can improve and once again showed himself to be a great man.”
