Gattuso targeting a classic encounter against Lazio

Gennaro Gattuso says he wants Milan’s Coppa Italia semi-final against Lazio to be a classic encounter and ‘an advert for Italian football’.

The last encounter between the two sides 10 days ago, which the Rossoneri won 1-0, ended in a brawl.

With the tie currently at a stalemate following the 0-0 from the first leg in Rome, Inzaghi has promised to avenge his team’s defeat.

And Gattuso who has featured in these clashes as both a player and manager understands the stakes are high.

“The matches against Lazio are always very tight,” Gattuso told Milan TV.

“Reaching another Final would be very important for our season. I hope tomorrow is an advert for Italian football. We want to see a show. We must only think about the pitch.

“I have a great friendship with Simone Inzaghi. We’ll do everything to behave ourselves. We’ll come together on the pitch.”

The Coach was then asked about a likely switch to Newcastle United after linking up with super-agent Jorge Mendes.

“I see Mendes often, I like good food and to talk about football,” he explained.

“The rumours about Newcastle are unfounded. I repeat, I only have a great friendship with Mendes.”
