Gennaro Gattuso has urged Napoli to forget winning the Coppa Italia and try to build on from the win with lots of difficult games still yet to come.
Gattuso is happy to have come victorious against Juventus but has urged his Napoli side to focus on upcoming games ahead.
Despite winning the first major trophy of his managerial career on Wednesday night, the Italian manager is not thinking too much about it. He believes greater challenges lie ahead for himself and his team.
“The games against Lazio, Inter and Juve were tough,” Gattuso told Radio Kiss Kiss.
“We went down to 10 against Lazio, Inter made things difficult for us and you all saw the Final.
“We’ve improved and we can improve even more. As a player, whenever I won a trophy, I always thought about the next day, what to do to make up for any weaknesses.
“We must always be ready and have a clear head. We’ll do that in our upcoming league games.”
Asides the Serie A, Napoli still have a crunch second fixture against Barcelona at the Nou Camp.
Gattuso accepts his Napoli side might be coming against a better side than the Juventus side they beat to lift the Coppa Italia title.
“As for Barcelona, there’s the acceptance that we’ll be facing a better team, but we’ll get there in the best possible way, in the right physical and mental condition.
“It won’t be a holiday, we’ll go there to play for progression. Instead, we want to go on holiday as late as possible.”
Napoli lie sixth in the Serie A, nine points behind fourth-placed Atalanta. Although, there is still little hope of a top-four finish with 12 games remaining in the current campaign.
