George Timotheou never stopped believing

The Schalke 04 Australian footballer was fired from Sydney FC in his country, but he fought back and now he will play in the German Bundesliga

In his native Australia, George Timotheou was seen as a surplus for A-League club Sydney FC.

The 20-year-old was sacked from his club at the end of the 2016-2017 season.

But he worked hard to get back on track, and after a while, he found a new light with German Bundesliga side FC Schalke 04.

Now the Australian feels right at home and wants to show his former teammates that’s he’s worth it.

“This has been a dream of mine, like most Aussie football kids who want to play in Europe,” he said speaking to FourFourTwo as reported by Inside Sport.

Germany international stopper, Manuel Neurer believes Alisson, Ederson and Hugo Lloris are the three best in the world.

“I feel very humbled and grateful, to be offered a contract by one of the biggest clubs in Germany and Europe.”

“It is a dream to play in the first team. but I have to first establish myself in the U23 squad and that is not going to be easy, so I have to prove my worth,” he added.

“I have to repay the faith that Schalke have shown in me and perform at an exceptional level for the U-23 squad.”

“I learned a lot about how the football world works and about myself at Sydney FC. Every experience betters you in some way,” he explained.

“But I never gave up on the dream. I have worked extremely hard at my game since coming back to the NPL.”
