Steven Gerrard feels the present Liverpool team’s extraordinary mental strength can help cement their place in the club’s history.

Jurgen Klopp’s appointment saw Liverpool re-emerge as the dominant force in English football, something which Manchester City have been enjoying thoroughly for the past few years.

During Klopp’s six-year-long tenure so far, the Reds have already brought home Europe’s biggest prize in Champions League and a Club World Cup trophy.

If not for the coronavirus bringing football to a halt, Liverpool would have most probably also ended their 30-year long wait and dethroned City as Premier League champions.

Meanwhile, Steven Gerrard is in awe at his former side’s incredible form. The ex-Liverpool skipper credits much of the team’s success to their mental strength.

“We used to have some really good professionals and mentally strong players in our squad,” Gerrard told Sky Sports.

“But now it seems that from No.1 in the squad to player 26, mentally they’re all monsters and are all on the same page. To have a squad that has that mentality, I’m really excited to watch them in the coming years.

“I think they have a fantastic opportunity to become a really successful Liverpool team, and that’s what we all want as Liverpool fans.”
