Marco Giampaolo has encouraged Fabio Quagliarella to compete for the top scorer award after his brace helped Sampdoria to secure a 4-0 win over Udinese.

The crowd was in a jubilant mood at Marassi, as Quagliarella matched the Serie A record by scoring in 11 consecutive games, new boy while Manolo Gabbiadini netted his first goal.

“It was a wonderful evening, because we achieved all the objectives we could,” said the Coach in his Press conference via Football Italia.

“Fabio achieves the record, the team plays at a high level, the three points. We can consider ourselves satisfied.

“It was not an easy match, because we had to work hard for it against a physical side, but showed great patience, focus and self-belief.

“I thought Quagliarella could sense this record was in the air. It’s an extraordinary achievement that so few champions get to enjoy. I think it left him quite emotional. Now that he has this record, why not aim for the Capocannoniere title?

“We’ve got to leave him as he is, enjoying himself and not feeling the pressure.”
