Juventus captain Giorgio Chiellini has named Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Mauro Icardi as the toughest strikers he’s ever had to face
The Italian is considered one of the best defenders in world football today due to his ability to read the game and his man-marking skills.
After starring for over 14 years with Italy and Juventus in the biggest competitions in football, Chiellini has gone up against some of the world’s greatest ever strikers.
But, when asked who he rates as the most difficult ones he’s ever faced though, Chiellini rates Ibrahimovic and Icardi as the best.
Ibrahimovic previously played against Chiellini while at Inter and AC Milan, while Icardi has frequently been pitted against the veteran over the past few seasons in the Serie A with the Nerazzurri.
“I would say [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic,” Chiellini told BBC.
“He’s a fantastic player who in Italy has made a difference. He’s very physical and uses it to dominate the match,” he said.
“Now, also [Inter Milan’s] Mauro Icardi. Icardi works in the box. He doesn’t like so much to play out of the box but in the box he’s a killer.
“But I try not to let the striker score his favourite goal. This is my work and surely I have some skills.
“I’m not fast like [Juve defender] Douglas Costa but I’m stronger and I can use the head and move one second before to not risk a situation.”
Juventus and Chiellini are currently at Saudi Arabia for Wednesday’s Supercoppa Italiana final against AC Milan.
