Giovani Lo Celso arrives for Tottenham medical

Real Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso has arrived for a medical as he closes in on a deadline day transfer to Tottenham.

After impressing on loan in La Liga last season, Betis signed up Lo Celso on a permanent €22m deal from Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

But Mauricio Pochettino is a big admirer of Lo Celso and has been pursuing him all summer. It seems the Spurs boss believes he will form a great midfield partnership with club-record signing Tanguy Ndombele.

Fueling the rumours was the 23-year-old’s withdrawal from Betis’ friendly against Las Palmas on Wednesday. Therefore, it freed him up to travel to north London to arrange a Premier League move.

And now The Telegraph’s Jason Burt has revealed that the player is undergoing medical tests at Spurs.

“Giovani Lo Celso is undergoing his medical at Tottenham Hotspur. Deal close to completion,” he wrote on Twitter.

Reports have claimed that Spurs struck a club record-equalling €60m for Lo Celso. However, he will likely spend this season on loan before the club make it permanent next summer.

This new development comes following their failure to sign Philippe Coutinho on loan from Barcelona and Sporting Lisbon’s Bruno Fernandes.

On the bright side, though, Spurs still have money left over to spend on more signings before today’s transfer deadline at 18:00 (CET).

One of those could be Juventus forward Paulo Dybala, with Spurs allegedly close to sealing a shock transfer for the 25-year-old.

Meanwhile, Pochettino’s side have also reportedly struck a £25m deal with Fulham to sign left-back Ryan Sessegnon. This will come as a big win for them considering that rivals Manchester United and Liverpool were also keen on the 19-year-old.

So far, Spurs have only signed two new players during the summer transfer window in Lyon’s Tanguy Ndombele for a club-record €60m and Jack Clarke from Leeds United for €11m.
