Didier Deschamps is adamant on keeping Olivier Giroud in the squad, despite his constant bench-warming at Chelsea under Frank Lampard.

France are preparing for clashes with Moldova and Albania in the upcoming international break.

Deschamps opted for Giroud ahead of Anthony Martial to carry the scoring burden of the team.

Even though Chelsea’s striker collected mere 211 minutes this season, it didn’t stop Deschamps from giving him the nod.

“Maybe that means something but it’s mostly what happened on the pitch that means something,” Deschamps said, as quoted by FourFourTwo.

“If he is the one I used the most, do not forget either the ratio of matches and goals.

“There are not many in front of him in terms of goals in the history of the France team. He did the right thing, he answered the trust.”

The striker proved decisive in the latest outing against Turkey, scoring France’s only goal of the match.
