Ruud Gullit has revealed how former Chelsea manager Glenn Hoddle convinced him to join the club after he left Sampdoria.
In July 1995, Gullit signed for Chelsea from Sampdoria as a free agent and played under Gleen Hoddle.
The Ballon d’Or winner has now disclosed that Hoddle being in charge at Chelsea was the main reason he joined.
“My decision to join Chelsea was mainly because of Glenn,” Gullit told Chelsea’s official website.
“I wanted to move away from Italy and everyone was saying I was crazy to go to Chelsea, but for me, it was the right moment to do something different and go to the Premier League.
“It was the right time for me to come. Living in London was fantastic and I had a manager in Glenn who understood the type of football I was playing.
“He was trying to get that across to the team and obviously, Mark Hughes came just after me as well, so it was a really fun time. I had one of the best periods of my career at Chelsea, I really enjoyed it.”
