Moussa Marega has spoken against racism after being allegedly abused during the match against Vitoria Guimaraes.
With half an hour left to play, Moussa Marega gave Porto the lead against Vitoria Guimaraes which eventually helped his side sweep all three points in the Primeira Liga.
The striker, however, got more than what he bargained for with his goal as he quickly became a subject of racial abuse.
The home fans allegedly directed monkey chants at the 28-year old.
As a result, to stand up against discrimination, Marega started to walk off the pitch. Both sets of players tried to console him and persuade him to continue playing which only resulted in their failure.
After the match, the Malian took to Instagram to raise his voice against the incident. He also thanked the referee for supporting him and not giving out a caution. Marega’s post read:
“I would just like to tell these idiots who come to the stadium to make racist screams… go f*** yourself. And I also thank the referees for not defending me and for giving me a yellow card because I defend my skin color. I hope I never meet you on a football field again! YOU ARE A SHAME!!!!”
