Angel Gomes has said a heartfelt goodbye to Manchester United and apparently signed for Ligue 1 side Lille.
Angel Gomes was considered at one time to be the next big thing to come out of the Manchester United academy.
The young attacking midfielder burst on to the scene with expectation at a high. However, after only ten first-team appearances across all competitions, he faded away into the background.
The club still had high expectations for the player and would have liked to keep him. However, his contract expired and he became a free agent after rejecting numerous offers from the Red Devils.
With rumors doing the rounds that he has signed a four year deal with Ligue 1 side Lille, who have consequently loaned him out to Portuguese outfit Boavista. It seems rather bizarre to have turned down United’s offer when they would have more than likely given him similar chances to gain experience.
Now though it appears while he will always be a United fan his time is officially over and he is moving on.
Via Instagram he said:
“It’s took me a while because it’s not been easy to put my emotions into words. Sadly the time has come to end a beautiful chapter that has been my life for 14 years.”
“Being from Salford, Manchester United is all I have ever known. I went from playing on my estate, pretending to be Wayne Rooney to being in the academy, and doing the same.”
“I want to thank every single individual at the club for the help and encouragement I received, from the very first time I signed at the club.”
“It is time I take the next step in my career, I hope you can all be proud of what I go on to achieve. I wish the club and everyone involved the best of luck, you will all be missed more than you can imagine. I also want to thank the fans, your SUPPORT hasn’t gone unnoticed.”
