Mason Greenwood has revealed that Wayne Rooney and Ronaldo were the footballers he grew up looking up to.
At just 17 years and 353 days, against Atlanta, Mason Greenwood became Manchester United’s youngest goalscorer in European competitions. The youngster was brought into the first team by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last season. And the 18-year old is slowly starting to justify his manager’s decision.
Recently, Mason Greenwood talked about his early days before making the breakthrough. He revealed that he was greatly inspired by the Red Devils legend Wayne Rooney and Brazil’s Ronaldo.
“It has to be Rooney,” Greenwood said when asked about the player he admired the most, as per TalkSport.
“The Brazilian Ronaldo, too. They’ve always stood out for me and I’ve always looked up to them,”
“Rooney is such a great goalscorer and that is what I want to be.
“You have to have a role model. I’ve never seen him, though. I’ve watched his games and the highlights on YouTube. Hopefully, I’ll get to meet him one day.”
“I’ve got so many role models around me and Marcus is another one. I just want to follow in his footsteps. He’s a goalscorer, he shoots off both feet, he’s quick,” Greenwood added.
“Solskjaer was a great goalscorer at United, too. And he’s a great manager in my eyes.”
