Antoine Griezmann is hoping to take Atletico Madrid far this season after grabbing the decisive goal in their 1-0 win over Rayo Vallecano on Saturday
The France international turned down a lucrative move to Barcelona in favour of signing a new contract extension with Los Colchoneros.
Speaking after securing Atletico with their first La Liga win of the new campaign, Griezmann spoke of his desire to take the club to even further heights.
“I hope I can take this club as high as possible,” he explained in an interview with BeIN Sport, via Marca.
“We didn’t play a great match.
“I don’t know if that’s through fatigue, but we will improve and we must keep working.”
French teammates Thomas Lemar and Lucas Hernandez joined Griezmann in presenting the World Cup trophy to the Atletico fans before kick-off.
“We’re happy with that celebration,” he intimated.
“We wanted to celebrate with our fans and enjoy the moment.”
After last season’s Europa League title and their recent victory over city rivals Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup, great things are expected of Atletico this year.
But Griezmann intends to take things on a game-by-game approach.
“We’ll try to win all the matches we have,” he confirmed.
“In the end we’ll see just how far we can go.
“I’m thrilled and proud to be here.”
Atletico will next face Celta Vigo away for their third fixture in La Liga.
