Antoine Griezmann’s capabilities remain unquestionable and he has the right mentality to succeed at Barcelona, says Didier Deschamps.
Antoine Griezmann has come under much scrutiny after failing to live up to his expectations at FC Barcelona.
Griezmann arrived at Camp Nou from Atletico Madrid last summer on a massive €120 million move but has struggled to form an enticing partnership with Lionel Messi and/or Luis Suarez up front so far.
As a result, speculations have surfaced suggesting that the Catalans plan to dip in the upcoming transfer market for another marksman, most probably Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez.
The accuracy of the speculations remains to be seen. Meanwhile, Didier Deschamps says it is completely normal for a player to take time to settle in new surroundings with elevated expectations.
“His situation does not worry me,” the France national team head coach told RTL.
“I have no doubt over his abilities. They are inarguable.
“All players have a period in their first year at a new club where things are maybe a bit more difficult. He has the mentality to deal with it.”
Griezmann recently suffered a thigh injury and is expected not to play any part in either of the two remaining La Liga matches for Barcelona.
