Pep Guardiola has told summer signing Joao Cancelo that he can stay at Manchester City and fight for his place in the side or leave.
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola displayed his ruthless side when it came to Joao Cancelo’s future at the club.
However, due to the good form of the likes of Kyle Walker he has been limited to a bit-part role so far this season.
Then when he has played, he has been far from convincing if not off the a touch disappointing.
This does not concern the Spanish master tactician, but he wants the player to understand it takes time to settle and he must continue to work hard.
In fact, in an interview reported by Marca, Guardiola is quite blunt in his assessment of the situation.
“I said that Kyle Walker was playing so good in the last period and, when one player plays good, Cancelo has to wait his moment.”
“At the end, the player has to decide if he wants to fight and stay here with us or not. They decide.”
“Everyone is free to do what you want to do in their whole lives.”
He may be out of the Etihad door before the end of the January transfer window.
