Man City boss Pep Guardiola has heaped praise on Marcelo Bielsa following Leeds United’s promotion to the Premier League.
Head coach Marcelo Bielsa was the mastermind for Leeds as they secured promotion from the Championship last week. They will return to the top flight for the first time in 16 years.
The Argentine has been a revelation at Leeds in his two seasons at the club and only enhanced his cult-like status among football fans.
City boss Guardiola has a long relationship with Bielsa that stretches back to their days managing in La Liga.
The 64-year-old is well known and respected for his unique tactics and ideologies to the game. Guardiola has even described him as the “best coach in the world” in the past.
Both managers would lock horns when they meet next season and Pep has no doubt Bielsa would bring something special to the Premier League.
“I was not his player so it’s difficult for me to talk about him, but I know the reference and the influence for a thousand-million players who were with him.” Pep said via Sky Sports.
“I am lucky to sometimes have the opportunity to talk to Bielsa and see him. He is an authentic manager because no other manager can play the way he plays. No one can imitate him and that makes him so special.
“For English football, it will be incredible for him to be in the Premier League next season and learn about him.”
Leeds and Bielsa are already aiming high and have a vision to secure a Champions League spot next term.
