Pep Guardiola has revealed that Gabriel Jesus was fully committed before signing the contract extension.
Following Sergio Aguero’s injury, Gabriel Jesus insisted that he was ready to take the goalscoring mantle for his team. The Brazilian has had limited time to make an impression but that has not demotivated him.
Manchester City will face Shakhtar Donetsk in their upcoming Champions League tie and Gabriel Jesus is expected to lead the line for them.
Pep Guardiola, in the pre-match press conference, took this opportunity to reveal the 22-year old’s commitment to the Sky Blues.
“There is not another striker at his level that can be so humble and accept the situation as Gabriel,” Guardiola was quoted by Manchester Evening News.
“The important thing is how you train and never miss one training session.
“He arrived and his impact, with his energy, immediately seduced us,” Guardiola revealed.
“He extended his contract, and he knew Sergio was here before he signed the contract.
“My advice to him was if you are not sure, you don’t have to sign the contract and he said no I want to stay here. He will be here for many years.
“Sergio will retire sooner than Gabriel and hopefully will stay here longer. We will do everything to keep him here for as much time as possible.
“He wants to play, listens a lot, feels bad when he plays and doesn’t score goals. I admire him.
“Some players are for themselves. Gabriel is the opposite. The last Copa America he played so well. I don’t have doubts, he is going to play well in the next weeks,” the City boss concluded.
