Pep Guardiola insists finishing second in the Premier League is the primary target for the current season for Manchester City.
Manchester City quickly erupted as the most dominating team in the English football following the appointment of Pep Guardiola back in 2016.
With Guardiola at the helm, City won back-to-back Premier League titles, a hat-trick of consecutive Carabao Cups, and the FA Cup – all while setting new standards.
However, they struggled to match their own high standards this season and were, as a result, forced to succumb to Liverpool‘s brilliance.
Pep Guardiola’s side are still alive in the FA Cup and they face Arsenal in the semi-final of the competition in a week’s time.
But having already secured a domestic title this season in the shape of Carabao Cup, Guardiola says making sure his side keep hold of their current league spot is of foremost importance.
“We cannot deny that the second [place] target is better than the FA Cup winner, the Carabao Cup winners, or the others and qualification for the Champions League, which all the other clubs are fighting for,” said the City boss, as per Sky Sports.
“We were not the best, another team was, but we were better than the other 18 teams. This is the target to finish this season.”
