Ilkay Gundogan admits all his Manchester City teammates know about Chelsea star signing Timo Werner, who he believes deserves respect.
All Premier League defenses will be wary of Chelsea next season, with a certain Timo Werner heading the attack.
The German striker lit up the scoring charts in the Bundesliga this season, scoring 28 goals. It wasn’t enough to beat Robert Lewandowski’s tally of 34 goals but made a great impression anyway.
Werner finished the campaign with 34 goals and 13 assists in 45 outings across all competitions. It helped secure RB Leipzig a third-place finish in the league and a Champions League quarter-final berth.
Now he’ll be eager to test his talents in arguably the toughest league in European football in the Premier League following a €53m switch to Chelsea this summer.
Despite not setting foot on any pitch yet, however, Werner is already well known by even Manchester City.
“Believe me: Everyone at City knows about Timo Werner. Many of my team-mates asked what kind of guy he is. He deserves respect,” Gundogan told SportBild.
While he cannot take part in Chelsea’s Champions League clash against Bayern Munich on Saturday, Werner began training with his new squad last week.
The 24-year-old, who was in the stands during the club’s FA Cup final defeat to Arsenal last weekend, has made a positive impression.
