Ilkay Gundogan describes the opportunity to have worked with Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola in his career as a privilege.
Few footballers get the opportunity to work with one work class manager in their careers. Ilkay Gundogan has had the privilege of working with two.
Gundogan was in Jurgen Klopp’s Borussia Dortmund side before he took the job at Liverpool.
More recently he has been a part of Pep Guardiola’s side at Manchester City.
Speaking to Fantasy PL, he describes the pair as the best in the world, and his personal opportunity as a privilege.
“They are the two best coaches in the world.”
“It is a privilege that I trained under both.”
“Both have a place in my heart. Both have taught me a lot and are part of my success.”
The German international believes that some envy his experience.
“I think there are a lot of footballers who are jealous of me are because they didn’t have that opportunity. “
Gundogan insinuates that the opportunity to work with Klopp again at Liverpool was there, but he opted not to in order to gain a new experience.
“I had four great years with Jurgen and I like him as a person and as a coach. But I felt that there was something new.”
“I wanted to leave Dortmund in Dortmund and not think about spending time with Jurgen when I chose a new club.”
